WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

At Journi, a creative tech company, we’re building the #1 most downloaded printing app in the world that allows customers to create beautiful photo books and other print products without effort. Using AI technology, we automatically create personalized designs based on the content our users want to print. We’re looking for an enthusiastic Senior Backend Engineer who is passionate about building great products, loves being part of a motivated team of internationals and thrives in a laid-back start-up culture without bureaucracy.



WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop the core of the number 1 printing app in the world, written in Scala, which enables our customers to create personalized print products with minimal effort
  • Design and develop new features and REST APIs during team sessions
  • Improve our architecture to help us scale with the growing demand
  • Work on a variety of algorithms creating optimal layouts for photo books, as well as image processing workflows, using functional and reactive programming
  • Proactively identify and communicate improvements in your own and your teams work
  • Give and receive feedback, criticize constructively and foster an environment for constant improvement
  • Share your expertise as a Senior Backend Engineer with the Journi Team



YOUR BAG OF TRICKS

  • 7+ years of development experience developing Backend applications (links to projects or GitHub are welcome!)
  • Strong knowledge in Java, Scala or any other JVM based language (If you do not have experience with Scala: You are willing and interested in learning Scala)
  • Experience developing and designing REST APIs
  • You know how to write automated unit tests with their respective mocks
  • Experience working with any SQL database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB) and any NoSQL database (Redis, AWS DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • You have strong communication & presentation skills
  • You are a self-starter with a strong ‘hands-on’ mentality & passion for solving problems
  • You work efficiently, prioritise workloads, and meet critical project deadlines
  • You are constantly learning, asking for feedback, and self-motivated
  • You are permitted to work in the EU/Austria (OR have a degree in Computer Science which is required to apply for an Austrian work permit)
  • You are able to relocate to / based in Vienna - the world’s most liveable city!



NICE TO HAVE (BUT NOT REQUIRED!)

  • Experience with the following technologies: PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, AWS (S3, SQS, ECS, ECR, SES, RDS, CloudWatch, ElasticCache, CloudFront), GitLab
  • Experience working with statistical methods or machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with migrations from monolith to microservice infrastructure
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • CI/CD experience
