Position: UI Human Factors Engineer (CFNJP00047814)

Location: San Diego CA 92130 (Hybrid)

Duration: 6 Months + Strong Possibility of Extension

  • Responsible for applying user-centered design methodologies to develop new products or enhance existing products based on customer needs. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of moderately complex, user-centered design methodologies and tools. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the application domain.
  • Analyzes, models and documents user behavior in moderately complex situations. Generates initial design concepts.
  • Translates user needs into design guidelines. Uses best practices to develop, analyze, maintain and share primary and secondary research data in moderately complex, recurring, traditional situations. Creates research plans for a project. Bachelor's degree preferred in design-related discipline: Interaction, Information or Interface design; Human-Computer Interaction; Design Planning; Graphic Design; Communications. 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Solid verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to all levels of clients and co-workers. Well-versed in user-centered design methods and techniques
  • Conduct a heuristic evaluation/audit on assigned product and deliver a report with prioritized recommendations to the UXD design leadership and product ownership.
  • Work with your project team to integrate new features into the current sprint releases.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Unified Design Standards and how they re applied across product lines.
  • Form a trusted relationship with the product owner and the development leader(s).
  • Maintain an Axure prototype for Sales (ASHP), Production and Feature Releases.
  • Create a test plan, screener, moderate and report out on at least one usability test, card sort or ethnographic observation with internal users/SMEs, leveraging existing templates and processes.
  • Generate proposed future functionality workflows which tie back to product roadmaps.
  • Moderate, plan and report on a validation test quarterly based on changing user needs.
  • Identity at least one goal focused on UXD process improvement, testing, collaboration, tools or efficiency which will benefit the team holistically.

The organizational structure

You will report to the Manager of User Experience, as overseen by the Director of User Experience in the Software Technology Solutions group within Medication Management Solutions. You will partner daily with the product owner, development leads, quality engineers, clinical SMEs and fellow interaction designers and human factors engineers.

Technology

Mac proficient or PC proficient with demonstrated efficiency in the following applications: Axure RP 9, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office 365 Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook, OneDrive.

Activities / Deliverables

Wireframes, Workflows, Site maps, Information architecture, Taxonomy, Low fidelity design ideas, High fidelity interactive prototypes, Heuristic evaluation or UI audit, Product demos, Visualizations, Interaction design rules, Product guidelines, Specifications, Planning, facilitating and reporting on usability tests, User interviews, Card sorting, Content and error messaging writing,

Communicating design rationale, Visual design skills. (a plus, not required)

Soft Skills

  • Design leader - be able to develop unique design ideas/thinking without the need for input from others. Ability to independently conduct user interviews, moderate studies (of at least 5 users per study), knowledge of usability testing processes (remote and in-person) and creating reports for a variety of tests.
  • Collaborative proven ability of knowing when, how and why to compromise with development teams in an agile environment. Create trust and gain respect from the product team leads. Use concise and strong communication, do not speak in circles. You are open-minded and stay curious about the possibilities.
  • Confident - be able to communicate the reason and thinking behind a design pattern and design decisions. Act decisively and independently, knowing when to ask for help, and when to be your own critic.
  • Problem solver be able to provide multiple, differentiated solutions to a single problem. Ability to flex when ideas are challenged.
  • Partner proven success partnering with team members to deliver high-quality, on-time deliverables with evolving requirements within short-timeframes. Maintain a we, not I mentality when things get tough.
  • Spherical demonstrates high-level of skill balanced evenly across analytical thought, creativity, strategy and tactical execution.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in User Interface Design, Human Factors or Cognitive Science, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working as a lead interaction designer.
