The opportunity

Are you a designer with a passion for data visualization?

As the Associate Information Designer, you will work with a multidisciplinary team to create dashboards, reports, and more for a broad range of audience groups across investment teams. Your key focus will be to visually communicate data to be clear, accurate, and visually impactful. If you are excited to develop your design skills to create effective and innovative data visualizations, this is the role for you!

Who You'll Work With

You’ll join the Data & Analytics team, which is a multidisciplinary group of data scientists, data analysts, software developers, and data visualization experts. In this team, you will work in a highly collaborative environment to deliver high quality data solutions. You’ll also meet and discuss designs directly with our internal business team clients (Capital Markets, Private Investment, and more).

What You'll Do

  • Visual design and implementation for information design projects
    • Design, implement, and deploy accurate, visually appealing, and informative data displays such as business intelligence dashboards and reporting products.
    • Gather requirements from clients to draw business insights from data, explore and implement solutions, and present design options to clients for feedback and iteration.
    • Review with management/team leaders on design recommendations before implementation.
    • Clearly communicate design rationale and ideas to key team members and decision makers.
    • Participate in data preparation and transformation for dashboard development.
    • Apply both design and development best-practices to dashboard creation to ensure products are high-performance, easy to maintain, and communicate effectively.

  • Data visualization training & community of practice in the organization
    • Participate and share internal and industry best practices.
    • Collaborate with business teams to train and elevate their data visualization skills and capability.
    • Maintain and expand knowledge of data visualization, business intelligence, current technology, industry trends and best practices through coaching and training opportunities
What You'll Need

  • Bachelor degree in related disciplines. Masters degree in data visualization or information communication considered an asset.
  • 0-2 years of experience in data analytics, data visualization or information design.
  • Developing experience in industry or an academic setting of data visualization, data storytelling and information design.
  • Excellent knowledge and demonstrated competency in data visualization, data storytelling and information design best-practices.
  • Strong foundation in applying user-centered design process.
  • Strong visual/graphic design and UI/UX design skills.
  • Hands-on Business Intelligence development experience with Power BI or other data visualization software platforms.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent is an asset.
  • Canadian Securities Course or demonstrated equivalent experience is considered an asset.
  • Proficient SQL skills in mining complex and multi-sourced data environment considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of databases, data modelling, and data processing,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in articulating design and analytic solutions/ ideas effectively for collaboration with business and IT partners.
  • Passion for story telling with data.
  • Ability to quickly learn/adopt to new technology and approaches.
  • Strong problem solving skills working in a team based environment.
  • Achieve positive business outcomes in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
