Position Summary

The Corporate Tax Manager will provide professional management and oversight for the tax reporting activities of the organization. Our ideal candidate is an excellent communicator with strong tax technical knowledge and analytical skills. You’ll use your skills to influence change, solve issues, and create efficiencies while assisting team efforts to support tax compliance, accounting, and financial reporting initiatives. The team is responsible for federal and state tax compliance, GAAP and Statutory tax accounting including computations of quarterly and annual income tax provisions, financial statement reporting, and income tax planning and forecasting. This role will report to the Corporate Controller.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review income tax provisions in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting rules (ASC 740 and SSAP 101), have the ability to also prepare.
  • Review required Federal tax forms for domestic life insurance and non-insurance subsidiaries, have the ability to also prepare.
  • Manage, train and mentor staff
  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries
  • Support GAAP and statutory financial statement audits.
  • Assist with IRS and state audits.
  • Assist with tax planning opportunities, M&A transactions, modeling tax impacts of proposed legislation and capital planning projects.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with internal and external clients.
  • Perform technical research, collaboration with outside advisors, and prepare documentation of conclusions reached.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of tax accounting experience (GAAP – ASC 740)
  • 5+ years of experience in managing corporate tax including federal tax returns, corporate tax provisions, supporting financial statement audits of tax provision, and tax planning
  • Experience with Life insurance taxation, including statutory accounting for income taxes (SSAP 101), is a requirement
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or MST highly desirable
  • Leadership management experience required
  • Strong computer skills, including tax compliance software, GL systems and research software
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to identify issues, research and recommend effective solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to interact and collaborate within the Tax department and across the Company
  • Excellent organizational skills, experience managing a diverse workload and skilled at prioritizing

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.

Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
