Objectives of the role


As the Lead of Monetization, you will play a pivotal role in analyzing, optimizing, and innovating Smallpdf’s monetization strategies. You will be responsible for understanding the current monetization approach, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing game-changing strategies to enhance revenue generation. This role requires a deep understanding of data analysis, user behavior, and monetization approaches to drive effective and innovative monetization efforts.


Key Responsibilities


  • Analyze all monetization-relevant data and knowledge to gain insights into current monetization strategies and performance.
  • Develop a comprehensive list of "immediate improvement" items to enhance monetization, including funnel optimization, usage limitation strategies, additional payment methods, trial period adjustments, invoicing period changes, pricing modifications, and other relevant improvements.
  • Formulate "game changer" monetization strategies, including changes to the freemium model, product differentiation, monetization approaches, and digital B2B sales initiatives.
  • Create smart business cases to analyze and justify proposed monetization strategies.
  • Discuss and align proposed tests and proposals with relevant teams, including SEO, Data.
  • Plan and initiate the execution of proposed monetization strategies in the frontend, collaborating with relevant product teams.
  • Plan and initiate the execution of proposed invoicing strategies in the backend (increasing payment success rates).
  • Actively monitor market trends, payment technologies, and emerging monetization models to maintain the company's competitive edge.
  • Identify and address problems or challenges in monetization efforts, escalating issues to management and relevant teams as necessary.
  • Take ownership of "ranking neutral" monetization efforts, ensuring alignment with broader product growth and user satisfaction goals.


What you bring


  • Proven experience (+4 years) in monetization, revenue optimization, pricing, GTM or related roles within the tech industry.
  • Knowledge of market trends, payment technologies, and emerging monetization models.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with pricing.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative monetization strategies.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams.
  • Experience with SaaS platforms and back-end solutions optimization is a plus.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a track record of driving measurable improvements in monetization performance.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, “get it done” entrepreneurial environment.
