Associate Project Engineer - Virtual Systems

As an Associate Project Engineer, you will be the authority/support person for various engineering projects in Automation & Electrification Service, Process Automation Energy Industries (PAEN), Cleveland, Ohio, providing technical details, costs, and deliverables for sales proposals.


You will be responsible for helping with all project implementation, including loading systems, configuring networks, and preparing systems for shipment.


By applying standard design concepts, you will prepare and modify various computer and network systems in this role.

This position reports to

Engineering Manager - Cyber Security

Your responsibilities

  • Support ongoing DCS (Distributed control system) system strategies for loading standards for Symphony and 800xA product lines
  • Support engineers and project teams within the PAEN region with project design reviews (Computer Specifications, Network Architecture) and direct contract support
  • Assist with performing installations of hardware and software in several environments, including Windows-based servers, with an emphasis on Windows 2019 server
  • Assist with configuring system networks comprised of servers, workstations, communication devices, and peripheral equipment
  • Support physical and electronic setup and alteration of computers and system networks to meet customer and contract specifications
  • Assist proposals teams in estimating hours and equipment
  • Support and drive quality efforts in project execution
  • Assist with on-site commissioning support
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately up to 20 percent of the time

Your background

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other engineering degree and a minimum of two years of experience in the configuration of computer systems or networks
  • Exposure to virtualization, routing, and firewalls preferred
  • Working knowledge of administrating Information Systems and Virtual environments preferred to include DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, Group Policy, VMware, vCenter, ESXi, SAN, NAS, DAS, iSCSI, Cisco OS, LINUX setup and administration and troubleshooting. WDS is a plus
  • Strong technical knowledge of Windows configuration and administration, operating system fundamentals, and network components and infrastructure, including networking hardware and basic networking theory, is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and work with diverse, disciplined project teams
  • Ability to learn new methods and technologies with attention to detail
  • Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Position will be based in Cleveland, OH
  • Reimbursement for relocation is not available
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
